REN I TANG
SNA Design's renovation and adaptive reuse project of the historic Ren I Tang in Penang encapsulates our commitment to preserving both the tangible and intangible heritage associated with this iconic site. Nestled in the vibrant community of George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ren I Tang stands as a testament to the rich cultural history of the area. This three-story shophouse, with its grand proportions and strategic location at the corner of Penang and China streets, boasts a storied 124-year legacy as one of Southeast Asia's oldest Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) halls.
Our project at Ren I Tang highlights the intersection of heritage conservation and modern functionality, ensuring that the building continues to serve the community while honoring its historical significance. By focusing on the building’s architectural integrity and its role in the traditional medical practices developed there, SNA Design aims to safeguard this cultural landmark for future generations.
Located in the heart of George Town's historic district, Ren I Tang not only enriches our understanding of the past but also serves as a living bridge to the rich traditions of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the region. SNA Design is proud to play a role in the ongoing story of Ren I Tang, blending history with innovation in one of Southeast Asia's most cherished heritage sites.
